Vaginal Rejuvenation. A term not so commonly used by the average female has, over recent years in particular, become a booming procedure for plastic surgeons and doctors. This is due to the ethical and health and safety risks of some devices and treatments that promise to "rejuvenate" women's vaginas.
What is Vaginal Rejuvenation?
Let’s begin with what Vaginal Rejuvenation, referred to in medical terms as Vaginal Reconstruction or Vaginoplasty, is.
Vaginal Rejuvenation essentially makes your vagina feel young again. This term is used as an umbrella for a number of varying vaginal procedures. This supports a renewal of vaginal tissue and an increase in muscle support. Not only does this form of procedure appeal to those who would like the aesthetic and functionality of their vagina to feel more youthful. It also helps those who inherent irritation through higher levels of activity and exercise within their everyday lifestyle or gain issues once having given birth.
There are 5 different types of Vaginal Rejuvenation.

Clitoral Unhooding, otherwise known as a hoodectomy, is where excess tissue is removed to reduce the size of the clitoral hood. A female would undergo this procedure for aesthetic reasons, to enhance sexual pleasure or reasons regarding discomfort.
Hymenoplasty is where the hymen is repaired to what it was, when one was a virgin. This is otherwise known as the “revirgination”.

Concerns Regarding Cosmetic Vaginal Surgery.
This form of plastic surgery has become a heavily debated topic in terms with health and safety. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (ACOG), any cosmetic vaginal procedure, is unethical and can create negative ramifications. In their 2007 committee opinion on Vaginal Rejuvenation and other Vaginal surgical procedures the ACOG stated and further reaffirmed in 2017:
“These procedures are not medically indicated, and the safety and effectiveness of these procedures have not been documented.”
The ACOG detailed concerns regarding infection, adhesions, dyspareunia, scarring and loss of sensation. The FDA also illustrated the health and safety risk behind methods regarding energy-based devices.
Many industry professionals have shed light on this popular concern regarding energy-based devices and how these devices need to be properly tested in order to know which are ethical and effective. Dr. Hadi echoed the need for more research and study to be undertaken. Dr. Hadi also illustrated the importance for a patient to only see board-certified specialists, in order to avoid any unsafe, risky or dangerous procedures.
