Low Cost Surgery
Whilst many doctors advocating low cost surgery in Australia performed by ‘non surgeons’ under twilight sedation or Local Anaesthetic are critical of surgery in countries such as Thailand, where the surgery is performed by Surgeons in hospitals under a General Anaesthetic, the reverse is probably the case.
In many cases patients would be safer seeking budget surgery performed by Surgeons who are members of the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons in accredited overseas facilities than they would be having the same surgery performed at home by doctors who are not surgically trained, who are performing the surgery under sedation or Local Anaesthetic. This is highlighted by recent cases in Sydney where patients suffered cardiac arrests and seizures having the surgery performed by doctors who are not registered surgeons with the Australian Medical Board (APHRA) under twilight anaesthesia.
Reduce Surgery Complications
Patients contemplating breast augmentation surgery should carefully consider their options and whether spending the extra money to have surgery performed by a qualified surgeon in an accredited facility under a General Anaesthetic in Australia is worth spending. Despite claims to the contrary, surgery performed by a qualified surgeon under a General Anaesthetic administered by a qualified Anaesthetist in an accredited facility is associated with fewer significant complications than the same surgery performed in any other manner.
